Letter To Old School Electric Company DVD People

Dear People who put the old school Electric Company dvd together,
(catching breath)

I am one of those weird people who enjoy watching T.V. shows that I watched when I was little, with my kids. We are now huge fans of the Muppet Show and one should really watch those shows again as an adult, because I think it's even more enjoyable now.
The Electric company was also one of those shows that I watched when I was really little like 3-4-5. I believe to this day that E.C. and Sesame Street taught me to read. On the first day of kindergarten, I can remember getting my workbook, flipping to the back and reading the short little sentences for beginning reading. I will go. You will go. We will go. Oh yes it's still clear as day

Sadly this letter is not to boast about how awesome E. C. is..that's already a given.
Yesterday Bossyboy(4) turned on E.C. as I hadn't sat down to watch each show begining to end. Before the menu came on, the previews for other T.V. shows on DVD came on. None of the shows that were advertised were suitable for small children. Most of them were geared toward the Pre-teen and teen crowd, for example Freaks and Geeks. I would have been totally OK with this except for one little point, they talked about S - E - X . In fact out right said it.

Normally I would take this kind of thing with a grain of salt on any other DVD that is geared toward adults-teens. This however is a children's program geared toward young children learning to read. I'll even go so far to say, it also is for elementary aged up to 4th or 5th grade as there are lots of other things learned than sounding out words. Still does not give you the right to advertise teen/adult programming on a DVD that appeared on a public television station where solicitation of things more mature in nature does not appear during children's programming.

I'm going to guess that the people who put the DVD together had never even seen the show and "assumed" that E.C. was more geared for teens. I also realize that I could have easily skipped through the previews and headed toward the menu. This really isn't the point, as I shouldn't have even had to think about what kind of previews would be on this DVD.
Luckily my 4yr old was completely un phased and I was able to grab the remote and skip onto the menu.
I just thought I should bring this to your attention and that it may be advisable to be more familiar with what kind of show is going to be viewed and what genre of audience will watching, when planning what previews to add.
I'm also tempted to let my library know this; as they may want to move the DVD to the teen section instead of the children's section.

Just thought I'd bring this to your attention.

A concerned parent,

Jean

Dear Cashier Lady..

It's time for another therapeutic letter to get that pent up frustration out...

Dear Cashier Lady at Wally World,

I realize your job is that of a high stress nature, involving dealing with a wide variety of people on a 8 to 10 hour basis, all the while standing. Doesn't sound like a picnic to me either but obviously since it is your job "to serve" you might try just a tiny bit harder to do it. Maybe a teeny tiny bit just for me? Please?

I can kind of understand the reason for being slow as molasses in the Artic, due to your hand being wrapped in a bandage. I have a tiny ounce of empathy. I admit I've never actually had the privilege of cashiering and probably could never master the art of it; but, I think possibly, I could scan items one armed and blind as a bat. Maybe I just dream these kind of things since obviously I don't know the trade.

I'm not normally the sort of person who is overly picky about how my items are bagged. There are some people who are beyond OCD on this...like my mother in law. She will blatantly call you out if your doing it wrong and then pretty much take over your job and do it herself.
I'm not that OCD but I have some teeny tiny preferences, like say the frozen and refrigerated goods. I think, in my little substituted reality where ponies poop rainbows and people bag the cold stuff together and bag things a little faster than paint drying, it somehow all makes sense. I know, call me crazy. What do I know? I don't get paid to do this highly acquired skill of bagging.
Another thing about my pony pooping rainbow reality, the cashiers say "Hello" and "How are you?" and "Did you find everything Ok?" I'll admit I'm not big on idle chit chat, and would rather you just do what you need to do. I do however like my existence in your presence to be at least acknowledged. That's really all I ask. You don't have to say anything else. Shoot, just telling me the total of my purchases would almost be ok with me...you know at least it's something.

Sincerely
Your always faithful only drag into your store cause it's literally down the street patron. Jean

P.S. It's really ok to bag the celery with the other produce and not just in a bag by itself. I've never had my celery bagged like the eggs or bread before. Sorry if I looked a bit confused.

A Couple Of Letters To Some Folks

Dear C,
After 10 years of marriage you'd think I would "get" you at some point. Just when I start to, you completely do a 180 on me. I thought I was supposed to be the one that couldn't make up their mind being the woman and all.
Last night you should have known that I didn't really want to go back out just to go to the grocery store. In fact if memory serves me before I left, I told you it would be super fantastic if you made the menu this week and shock of shocks, went to the store for us. No that would be to easy.
I gave you a choice of Ramen soup or I could make buffalo wings which would take longer but could be done. You didn't want either, you wanted me to go out and get chicken. Which totally would defeat the purpose of me "not" going out. Plus I thought we were trying to save money by eating in and one less meal to buy in groceries.
Dearest hubs, wasn't it you that has told me many a mucho times that, "We have plenty of food in the house, we need to eat it." This usually at a time when we had far less in the house than we did last night.
I guess you knew I would cave since I had mentioned that I had been craving Popeyes chicken. Cave I did.
I'm so going to remember this the next time I mention I want something out. You won't get out of this that easy.
Your Wife

Dear Game Boy,
I can't tell you enough how proud I am of this sudden change in turning in homework on time and gasp.. improving your grades dramatically! I'm not sure what woke you up but hello, good morning and glad to see ya! See how unbelievably easy it is to do something so simple as turn in homework..on time? We'll work on improving the home work grades themselves in time. I'm really not overly concerned about that just yet. Your bringing your math grade up and seem to understand the concepts. That's the most important part. You made it through long division and lived to tell about it!
When you told me about this practice TASK test stuff and how all the practice math tests you did poorly on but the official test itself you did awesome on. I'm so very happy for you as well as your teacher. I could also tell that you were pretty darn proud of yourself too.
Keep up the good work and don't just think that since your improving now, you can slack off. That's not how it works. You have to keep it up. I know you can do it!
Love ya!

A Letter To Bossy Boy -

Dear Bossy Boy,

I realize that in your little mind you believe that your 4 going on 9. Your goal in life is to catch up with GB in his own marathon of life instead of just keeping pace in your own.
You should understand that life is not a sprint but merely a jog. There's no hurry to try to catch up with everyone else. If you do try to hurry you'll merely lose and miss out on your own finish line.
I understand you have no idea what I mean and I'll try to simplify.
You are not expected to like everything that big brother likes and you are certainly not expected to be exactly like your big brother. Maybe we made the miskake of telling you to often that you are your big brother's mini-me. You look like him and act like him in so many ways.
GB adores the idea that he sets and rises your sun. He's not to keen on the fact that you hang out in his room when he's gone playing with his Axis and Allies and messing up his men, but he does like the idol factor he holds in your eyes.

The thing is, you are your own person. Your not GB and never will be. It's totally and completely ok that you actually like Diego and GB hates it. I know that it was a hard decison to choose it over Scooby. I just want to say that I'm proud of you for making your own choice and going against what big brother would like.
I think you actually understood that some things really are for bigger kids like Star Wars. I know you love the show simply for the light sabres and killing, what boy doesn't? Sigh. Yet there is more to that series than just that and it's beyond your understanding. Diego though, was totally made with little boys at the age of 4 in mind.
I admit since you have chosen wisely for your specific age group on a DVD, you have now watched it 717 times this week. I'm ok with that. I know this little age appropriate selection thing won't last long and you'll be back on to the next big thing GB is. I just hope you'll understand there's no big hurry to be 9. Besides GB will tell you it's not all it's cracked up to be. There's that whole long division thing that makes every 9 year old wishing he were 4 again.

Love,
Mom

P.S. If you don't want to turn 5 in June and then soon after go to kindergarten, that's totally cool with me.

A Letter To Gameboy

Dear Gameboy,

I just wanted to let you know that your attitude lately has sucked. I'm not sure what your deal is, other than growing pains and testing my will but you need to chill.

I thought that you had a pretty good understanding that your possibilities of winning something (a lame certificate) were pretty slim and that the main point of doing the science project was because it was required and for you to learn a little something along the way. You seemed cool with that during project time. That all went out the window with the 20mph wind last night.
I've never seen you act worse than a two year old like you did last night. I was in no mood to deal with your mood at the school during the little concert. Santa for sure has you on his hot lump of coal list.

When I told you to chill and then you snapped back that I needed to chill, Well Homey don't play that. You can think that you can talk to me like that and get away with it but you won't and you didn't.

Then there's the homework thing. I feel like I'm beating a dead horse on this. Why spend hours and hours each night getting your homework done and then not turn it in? Whats even the point? How can you forget or say you don't have time? It just doesn't make sense.
I asked you about caring about your grades and you at least were honest and said you didn't care. Sigh!
I'm hoping that the little contract we signed by you promising to turn in your work and try and care about your grades and I will try to focus more and help you more on homework will help. Otherwise the beatings will ensue (not really but taking away every privilege you have will) to oblivion.

Oh and just wait until your father gets home!
Your mom.

P.S. I love you more than life itself and am not trying to nag your ear off. I just want whats best for you. I know your a little genius and you can do this. Just an FYI your stocking is going to be a little bit emptier than usual if you don't shape up.

Dear New BFF Heather

Dear Heather,
Thank you so much for your letter. It's not every day that I get a love letter, especially one that is awarding me the gift of great music. Who knew that the random number generator would hear my plea for the CD?
I really hope that when I e-mailed you back my choice for the gift card; that you haven't decided our relationship is so over. I would be crushed.
I would like to explain my reasoning; other than the lame one I gave of -I already have most of the songs. If I didn't have most of the songs, wouldn't that mean I wasn't a true fan? Wouldn't you question my fan authenticity?
My hope for choosing the card was to hopefully find a NKOTB t-shirt on Amazon for my future date concert viewing. I must show my true fan loyalty you know. Sadly I'm not sure one is to be found on the Amazon and my choice of the gift card may have been unwise. Not that I wouldn't put it to great use, like say on a book or possibly to help contribute to my hubby's birthday this Friday.
Anyways I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being the first one to tell me back in March that NKOTB was getting back together. Thank you for letting me know when they were going to appear on the Today Show. I would have been in the total dark about the whole thing. My date with the boys would never come to be. Oh the disdain I would feel. My dream of finally meeting them is all because of you.

Your NKOTB BFF,

Jean

P.S. I am willing to share the boys with you. I admit that I'm jealous that you get to have them first (not to mention the day before my birthday) but that's ok, because I know their saving the best for last. :)

Another Letter to C

Dear C,

I'm sure your really ticked off at me and I can understand. When someone bursts into random laughter; while someone else is trying to show you a music video that is supposed to be a heartbroken romance- in relation to World of Warcraft. One is not supposed to laugh when it's totally inappropriate. I'm sorry. It honestly was not meant to be offensive to anyone.

I know your over there chatting madly to your guild members about the gall your wife has to laugh at some person's online romance on WoW. You may even be contemplating how you can love someone who can be so uncaring. Again I'm sorry. It totally came off wrong and I just want to explain.

Sleep deprivation, stress, and a mix of everything else has caused my emotions to go crazy. Remember -I've been getting up at the butt crack of dawn, just in case you forgot. While the video was going, I did actually feel the need to cry. I was trying to suppress it and thinking how funny that someone would do this. Though it was sweet in a tragic Romeo and Juliet kind of World of Warcraft way. I was totally thinking of co-worker dude that left for California cause he met a girl online. I'm sure it was through WoW. Then a smile began to crack on my face and I just couldn't hold back. I really don't know what came over me. It's really hard to explain. I just had a jumble of emotion all at once. Sadly yet funny the laughter over ruled.

You have heard of people laughing inappropriately at funerals right? It's totally just a bundle of emotions all in one. You believe me right? Forgive me? Please? Guess no smoochie tonight?

Your inappropriate laughing wife.

P.S. At least according to Wonderboy..God still loves me no matter what. His exact reassuring words. So there's always that.

A Letter to C

Dear C,
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your efforts on helping out with Operation Purge The Garage. I really enjoyed the fantastic idea of you deciding the best place to "de clutter" the garage was to bring in stashes of your junk cherished items into the living room to sort.
This was most especially appreciative; since I had just come home Sunday from working all day, whipping up a nutritious meal for the kids-taco bueno lunch leftovers are totally nutritious in my book but that's not the point, and last but not least de-cluttering and vacuuming the living room.
I think it's wonderful that your helping by moving it from one cluttered place to another, since after all it was some what de cluttered and cleaned. I could totally see where you could see there was plenty of room for the junk, now that the living room was clean. Why don't we move the living room stuff to the garage? When it gets all cluttered again we could play musical rooms and do it all over again. Fun Times!

Oh I almost forgot! I totally enjoyed removing the extra baby junk from my van this morning (that you placed in there) even though there was still plenty of room in the 'burb. I know that you were looking out for my best interests on my time, as I have plenty of it in the mornings, to get that stuff out so I could properly seat the kids.
I do realize that like you, I also played musical junk and just moved it from one place to the other. I promise to get right on getting it out of the 'burb as soon as I have my next day off and you know the place is actually open.

Thanks Hon Love For Reals..SRSLY!
Your loving, understanding, cooperative wife

PS Thanks for dinner it was delish!

Unsatisfied Customer Service Letter Day

Dear Taco H E Double Hockey Sticks,
I decided to patron your facility today to grab myself and husband some lunch. The drive-thru was crazy busy so I decided going inside would probably be best. I was wrong.
The line was long inside, yet I decided to stick with you since I was already there. After placing my order and waiting (a very long time), I noticed several different customers complaining of their order being messed up or that the wait was way to long or some peoples number completely skipped. Yet I preserved. Once the line had finally died down, those of us who were in that line were still waiting on our order. As we waited I noticed a couple of young gentlemen come in and talk to their buddy behind the counter. Within 3 minutes they got their "order" from their buddy and were on their merry way, while the rest of us remained waiting. Not cool. Due to the excessive wait, I was unable to drop my husbands lunch off to him as I had to get back to work. Not cool. Though I appreciate that my order was at least right, however next time, I'd like a little nacho bel grande with my sour cream. Please and thanks!
Your Unsatisfied Customer,
Jean

Dear Dr Optician,
I realize that your the "best" in East Texas when it comes to fixing kids eye balls. Therefore I realize that the wait will be excessive. I have had many a wait before at your fine eye place. Today however took the cake on excessive and wait. We showed up at 2:30 which was actually early. I know I should never come early. We finally got "in" at almost 4. The optician assistant went through the normal rigmarole and then placed us back out in the waiting room for another hour plus wait to see your heiness. I understand you apologized for the wait over and over. I just wanted to let you know that it doesn't thrill me to finally get out of there at 5:30, especially when I have two taxi runs left. Sorry to tell you but time is a precious commodity for me and this visit was quite wasted. Why would you command us to see you again with in two months appointment only to tell us your going to delay eye surgery for Wonderboy another 6 months? It just don't make sense. We totally were under the impression from the last visit (2months ago) that surgery would be scheduled for summer.
Anyways thanks doc for allowing me to catch up on my book.
Seriously doc, you might want to check into that whole overbooking thing. You've plenty o money and are not hurting.
Jean

Dear Greasy Hut,
It's a Wednesday night and I was tired from sitting around for 3 hours doing nothing and hubs was really craving pizza since he missed lunch. I didn't realize that Wednesdays were crazy busy nights for you guys. It took you way over an hour to deliver the pizza and with that it was barely warm. When I order from Daddy Murphys, online mind you, I get my pizza pretty darn quick and it's hot!
You might want to check into that whole Internet thing, it could revolutionize your business.
Thanks for the greasy, luke warm pizza, an hour and half later.
Jean

Obviously today was not customer appreciation day for me.

A Letter To The BBQ Man

Dear Mr. BBQ Man Serving BBQ At My Favorite BBQ Restaurant,

My family and I came into your establishment last night to devour our favorite BBQ dish of ribs. You had to tell us the heartbreaking news that you were completely out of ribs and that we must select something else. I understand it's a little bit frustrating to have to wait on a family of 5 to re decide what to order when that's the only thing we've ever ordered, but did you have to be rude about it?

Please understand that I am trying to juggle 3 children and their plates of bbq on one tray and when you bluntly tell me "I'm not the psychic network," when all I said was "sandwich plate". You could have easily asked me nicely what kind of beef I'd like on my sandwich plate. It really isn't that hard to be a little gracious and a dash of friendly customer service wouldn't hurt either.
Then when you literally threw my plate at me and the only thing saving it from completely flying off the top of the service top was the little sign, was not cool. For your manager who was standing right there to jokingly say "Don't worry folks he's a professional" wasn't cool either. I get that this is kind of your "schtick" as I've seen you toss the plates before at other visits. I could tell you threw this one a little harder than normal.

What kind of restaurant places a giant spider in the middle of the room, so when someone goes out the exit the spider comes drifting down at eye level? Yeah it was pretty cute and funny at first, but when your 3 year old is completely freaking out about the spider and refuses to eat and cries and pleads to leave, it's a bit to much. Yeah sure if we would have had any clue that the spider did that when selecting our seats we would have moved. Sure we could have moved at any time but it's really a pain in the a** to re gather up all your food and then find another place that's out of sight from the spider and sits a party of5. Needless to say I didn't get to enjoy my CHOPPED BEEF SANDWICH (I'll be sure to be more specific next time, which there probably won't be a next time) which isn't what I wanted anyway.
Thanks BBQ place thanks for absolutely nothing. I don't think we'll be back anytime soon and we will have to find another place that actually has ribs, good servers that wont throw your food at you, and no spiders.
Jean

I'm definatly not a nominee for mother of the year

Dear Bossyboy,
I'm sorry I gave you a smack on your bottom for dumping half a brand new bottle of kid shampoo on you brother's bed. It wasn't your fault that your brother gave you the bottle to smell. He should have known better. Even though you forgave me and still hugged and kissed on me goodnight, I still feel like dog doo for doing that. Also there probably wasn't any need to get on to you about wanting to ride on the cereal box like a ride-on toy car. I just didn't feel it necessary for you to actually use the cereal box. Couldn't you have used something else that actually has wheels? I'm just sayin.
Love
Mom

Dear House,
I'm sorry I haven't given you a thorough cleaning that you deserve every week. Sure you had a pretty good cleaning last week, but that was only downstairs. I realize I've totally neglected your up stairs. I know I keep promising I will do it but things just come up. Besides the boys will have it in a disaster in 10 minutes and then it wouldn't be worth it.
Sincerely,
Your tenant

Dear Wonderboy,
I'm sorry I haven't gotten your glasses fixed or adjusted for you. I realize that just bending them up myself so they will stay on your face, doesn't quite work the same way. I'm also pretty sure that the optical place is going to tell me you need new frames. I think your warranty is out on those since we used the warranty the last of the dozen times we fixed them. Once our ship comes in we'll get two pair like we normally do. You'll be ok til then right?
Love
Mom

Dear Gameboy,
I'm sorry I don't enjoy playing Pokemon with you. I'm really fine to play any other game with you but not Pokemon. I just honestly would rather have a root canal. Speaking of root canals... that tooth that got knocked out by that 5 year old kid with the baseball, you do think it's going to be ok? I'm just a little concerned about it, but really don't want to take you to the dentist only to find it really is ok. It was a baby tooth (Thank you Lord) so it should be fine.

Love
Mom
