We Interrupt The Christmas Festivities For Some Whining...

I'm sorry to interrupt the happy happy joy joy that's going on here, I just have to cry on my blog's shoulder for a bit...

I was David in a Goliath world, going into my fantasy football championship. I made it by some kind of kookie miracle. When this happens, I say a simple prayer: "Please fantasy football gods, toss me out of the playoffs with a really good whooping and or don't make me lose by 1 or 2 points. If that happens, Id rather not go to the playoffs at all. My heart just can't take the stress." ..And the playoff gods laughed.
By another crazy fluke, I won the first round.
The second round I knew it was going to be way to tough. The guy I was playing is the Goliath in my division. Winning to him would take a fantasy football miracle. I stayed positive that I could be David.
Today my games started out really well. It's been neck and neck all day. I hate neck and neck. The stress kills me.
Ben Rothlesburger is my quarterback a risky one but somehow he always pulls through. Tonight was no exception. Thank you Ben for playing hard for me.
Thank you L.T you did alright man
Thank you Michael Turner you sweet angel you, you always pull through on games that I need you most.
Thank you S. Moss. They told me you were risky in starting you, but I believed in you and you did good.
Thank you Reggie Wayne. I know Peyton has a lot of wide receiver choices and it's hard to get me the points I need. You pulled through just fine.
Thank you Tony Gonzalez. You had your ups and downs but I stuck by your side.
Thank you Ryan Longwell. You big bad kicker you. Today wasn't one of your higher scoring days. I appreciate you nonetheless.
Cardinals, What can I say, you guys probably saved me more than anyone. It was a end of the season last ditch effort to get a decent defense. I knew going in, that you were a roller coaster team. You proved it last week by helping me pull off a stomping on my opponent. This week, I know you did your best and actually pulled through with that defensive touch down at the last minute. Though one more measley point would have made me victorious. It's Ok I forgive you.
Patriots. I'm sorry. I guess paybacks are hell for benching you. You guys actually did decent today and had I started you I would have won.

My games were done, my score was 108. Not to shabby, but still beatable. He caught up with me and was down by 2.
Two points is a VERY stressful amount when he has his kicker left. The kicker for Dallas. Kickers normally can range from 2-10 or more depending if their team is scoring touch downs. (Please bare me with me, I know some of you are yawning already)

I sent an e-mail to my good work buddy who is a major Giants fan. I told her root for your boys like you've never rooted before. If they pull through for me, I will become their biggest fan ever.

The Giants defense played very hard at keeping Romo and the boys back. Sniff.. but not quite enough. As I sit this minute the dude I'm playing and I are tied at 108. It's the bottom of the 4th quarter. (updated to add ..its ended in a tie)
I've lost with this tie, simply because his division record is better than mine. Sniff.
Here's the salt in my wounds: The first tie breaker is a head to head, we were tied. Sniff.
A tie like this (in the championship) has never happened in all the years I've played. Sniff.
All the hope I have left now is getting awarded for all the points I've gained...we'll see, a small silver clouded lining.
I wanted to win and then hope somehow, I'd beat the next Goliath. By beating the next Goliath, I would have had the possibility of playing the championship game against my hubby. Husband and Wife playing each other in the Championship has never happened either. Sniff
We could have both come home with 1st and 2nd place winnings. Sniff.
Yes my friends this championship had some moolah riding on it.
I now must root for my hubby. He's ahead at the moment and so far so good. His opponent also has his kicker left. Crossing my fingers.

Now I'll go and cry in my beer...if I had any.

**Now back to your regularly scheduled holiday cheer already in progress.**

It's That Time Of Year Again

Time for fantasy football! Did I hear you just groan? It's ok I understand. For those of you clueless of what fantasy football is- I give you this fantasy football edumcated post from last year.
Last year was a somewhat dismal year for the Schaubberry Shortcakes. I can't even remember my record and barely made it through the finals. I think? I loved my catchy team name though. Just in case you didn't know...Matt Schaub is the quarterback for the Houston Texans, hubbies team. The more you know.
Normally I'm over prepared and ready for the draft by the first preseason game. This year not so much. My main thought is; what's the team name going to be this year? I'm in it for the creative name and the off chance I win some moolah, which so far in the 6 years I've been playing (wow I just realized that) I have yet to see the moolah.

I'm going to make a small confession: I become over zealous at the start of the season and follow my players like crazy. Hubs and I will actually fight over which football team to watch, if one of our good players is playing. By the time the end of the season is over, I get to the point where I'd rather fold laundry. I know, sad. I'm sure it has to do with the winning losing streak.

All of this to say I need a new team name. I looked back on my old ff posts and must say that the ones I came up from last year are hysterical. IMO

Here are a few new and old ones. So tell me which one you guys like.

-Teflon and the Nonstick Pans

-Psychotic Mom Scoring (PMS)

-Gridiron Gyros

That's all I've got for now. My brain usually synapses with a great team name just as I'm falling asleep or during a time when I should be doing something else. I'll let you know.

The things a wife will do for her husband...

I love my husband dearly and would drive from one end of the earth to the other and back to retrieve him whatever in the world he would need on that side of the earth. Which is pretty much what I did today.
Last night I got all the FF gear ready for the draft, a die hard player has print out rosters of each position, a black sharpie, a highlighter, and a route 44 Dr. Pepper to keep up their strength. I also charged the cell phone the night before since I would need it to relay picks for hubs and it would take a good hour.
I loaded up my gear this morning and headed out on my journey. I had a bit of extra time and pulled into Sonic for my route 44 and decided to call the hubs, yet there was a slight problem..phone was dead as a door nail. Crap why you no charge phone? This was going to be a problem cause I knew the hubs would rather die a fiery death than me just do his picks for him. Since I had the laptop, which handily has a Verizon card; because you never know when you could have an Internet emergency. So I tried logging on..no go..can't get a connection.
Remember I told you I would be in small town Texas? Yeah they don't quite get good Internet reception down there. Sadly their all on dial up over there..bless their small town hearts. Now what was I going to do? I literally cannot contact my hubs unless gasp, I use a pay phone. Unfortunately they don't really have a pay phone in the fire house, and the fire dudes probably wouldn't be up for me borrowing the house phone. There was only one thing I could do, drive back home between drafts and get the hubs cell phone. It's a good 35-40 minute drive from small town Texas to Medium town Texas. Mom's taxi would have to fly like the wind, or at least what I consider flying by going 5 miles over the speed limit. I'm all about safety first.

I get home grab the hubs cell phone and literally turn right back around and fly back. Yeah I was a good 15 minutes late, but the guys were kind enough to go ahead and pick and so as I literally sat down and turned on the phone, hubs pick was up. It's as if I hadn't been gone at all. Then I collapsed to the floor as if I had just ran a marathon. I must really love that man to fly like the wind, run a marathon, and then draft for him all within an hour and a half.

Wish Me Luck

Remember when I promised I wouldn't say any more about FF? Yeah well you didn't notice that I had my fingers crossed behind my back.
I'm about to leave for the draft-to pick my players. This means I get to drive 45 minutes to the firehouse in small town Texas, with a bunch of redneck guys who thinks their trash talk scares a little lady like me. They should know better by now that it only encourages me more. I of course will be the only girl for the first session, that's how I become an easy target. I think after 5 years of playing I have earned their respect. Some how I got snuckered into staying for the second session to draft for the husband. I think I got the better end of the deal, since he will have to watch the kids all day. Should be fun wish me luck.
