A Letter To Gameboy

Dear Gameboy,

I just wanted to let you know that your attitude lately has sucked. I'm not sure what your deal is, other than growing pains and testing my will but you need to chill.

I thought that you had a pretty good understanding that your possibilities of winning something (a lame certificate) were pretty slim and that the main point of doing the science project was because it was required and for you to learn a little something along the way. You seemed cool with that during project time. That all went out the window with the 20mph wind last night.
I've never seen you act worse than a two year old like you did last night. I was in no mood to deal with your mood at the school during the little concert. Santa for sure has you on his hot lump of coal list.

When I told you to chill and then you snapped back that I needed to chill, Well Homey don't play that. You can think that you can talk to me like that and get away with it but you won't and you didn't.

Then there's the homework thing. I feel like I'm beating a dead horse on this. Why spend hours and hours each night getting your homework done and then not turn it in? Whats even the point? How can you forget or say you don't have time? It just doesn't make sense.
I asked you about caring about your grades and you at least were honest and said you didn't care. Sigh!
I'm hoping that the little contract we signed by you promising to turn in your work and try and care about your grades and I will try to focus more and help you more on homework will help. Otherwise the beatings will ensue (not really but taking away every privilege you have will) to oblivion.

Oh and just wait until your father gets home!
Your mom.

P.S. I love you more than life itself and am not trying to nag your ear off. I just want whats best for you. I know your a little genius and you can do this. Just an FYI your stocking is going to be a little bit emptier than usual if you don't shape up.

::hugs:: I hope things get better soon - no one likes a stocking full of coal :)

My husband was weird with his homework when he was younger, before he went to a private school he just got bored and lazy and his parents were so frustrated because he's seriously a genius. Luckily he got better and went on to do very well for himself and I'm sure your son will, too!

ROFL! Sounds like The Teenager when he was in 5th and 6th grade. I never understood the whole "I'm going to spend an hour doing my homework, but why should I turn it in?" And now The Artist, who is in 6th grade is going through the exact same thing.

Here is what is working for me. We can get online and check their grades any time we want. So every Friday afternoon, we get on. If they have a C for any reason, The Teenager looses his cell phone, and The Artist looses his Nintendo DS. They have a week to bring their grades up. The next Friday we check again, and if the grades are back up to B's and A's, they get their stuff back. The Artist is going on 6 weeks now without his DS, but the grades are coming up and he is getting excited! We actually grounded him from all video games and his candy. He has almost all his Halloween candy sitting on top of the fridge waiting for him.

This won't work for everyone, you just have to find out what is a good motivator for your child that you can take away and give them the desire to earn it back.

BTW, The Teenager is in 9th grade and is earning straight A's! So there is hope!

Wow, that was a really long comment! Sorry!

This isn't related to this topic- but thanks for being the first person to send me a Christmas card! Imagine my surprise, as I'd been reading about which picture you'd choose- then you sent me one.
Thanks!!
