The Travel Adventures of Lilly P. Badilly: Costa Rica Book/CD Review

I jumped at the chance to review a kids’ book that I thought the boys would enjoy.

Here’s a little bit about the book:

Lilly P. Badilly is about an apprehensive millipede who takes an adventure with her grandparents to Costa Rica. She learns to face her fears and overcome them with bravery and ingenuity. Lilly loves to sing and play her key board. The book comes with a read along CD that not only tells the story but also includes some of Lilly’s singing masterpieces.

Review:

I had Gameboy(9) read the book without the CD first, to give it an over view. He seemed to be captured by the story and pictures and read it all the way through.

We then listened to the CD along with the book. The story line itself was cute. The book seemed to really incorporate interesting facts about Costa Rica along with the dramatic adventure story that really kept Gameboy interested. The illustrations were vivid and kid captivating like a child had drawn the pictures.

I asked Gameboy a few questions about the book:

What did you like most about the book?

The pictures and the part when the bugs were captured.

What did you like the least?

The singing.

Did you enjoy the book most with or with out the CD?

I liked it better just reading it myself.

Out of 5 stars what would you rate the book?

3 stars, it was A OK

Overall: The book was a good read for my oldest. I think the pictures and storyline are what will make this book standout. Some kids may lose attention with the length of the story when reading along with the CD. The music kind of draws the story out longer.

I asked Gameboy if he thought it was to long and he didn’t seem to think so; except during the CD play, he was flipping through the book to see how many more pages were left.
