A Quick LIttle Book Meme

I found this little Meme at Jen's place and thought I'd join. Check out Booking Through Thursday

This one is all about first memories of visiting the library or bookstore.

My earliest memory of books were my ChildCraft Encyclopedias. In fact I believe they were really the only books I had for a very long time. When I say a long time I mean from birth to 3 or 4. I actually have a baby picture of me with those Encyclopedias. I don't think they made baby books back in the disco age. Maybe that's where I got my thirst for general random knowledge.

I can remember being in kindergarten at a small private school and watching the "big kids" walk to the neighborhood library and wanting so badly to go too. Our little school which was actually in my mother's long time church, did not have a library.
First grade came and I remember getting our first trip to the library. I didn't know what to expect. When we walked in I was amazed at the walls and walls of books.
I don't remember what I checked out. I do remember that it took me forever to choose one only one. I sat on the floor with that one book and read it over and over. I was the last out as we left. The teacher probably had to pull me out by ear...maybe not. I do remember being last and walking all the way back to the school with nose in book.

Awww what a great memory - we so could have been friends as kids... except I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess when you were a kid I wasn't born (hey I know I'm considered young for a mom), but in some weird twilight zone-like dimension where we could both be 1st graders at the same time, we could totally read books and ignore everything else together. :)

Those ChildCraft Encyclopedias were in the bookcase in our hallway. Circa..1968 or so I guess. I read EVERYONE from cover to cover... We also had the regular Encyclopedias too...I loved them.. neighborhood kids could come over to borrow them.
