Dog Tags

Recently the ol work place (the place where they pay me so I can hand my paycheck to daycare) decided it was in the best interest of it's employees to get a security card to come in to the building. Mind you my place of work has less than 30 people, we all pretty much know each other. Yet the big bosses in Wisconsin have our best interests in mind. NOT. So we are now "dog tagged" as I say with both a security card and Id badge. I wouldn't have a problem with this if a. I actually felt it necessary and b. I absolutely felt it necessary. We rarely have clients come to the office ever, and that includes enraged clients.

I felt that yeah it was a pain in the hiney to lug my dog tag around my neck and god forbid Mrs. Receptionist not recognize me to let me in, though you know she's seen me everyday for the past 5 years and even trained me to be the backup receptionist. Though I did color my hair which causes two problems. My dog tag now no longer reflects what I look like which leads to the next problem, if we ever have badge inspection day they may deny me access. So far they haven't noticed my incognito self.

The day care has now decided that it's in the best interest of the children to secure the doors there to. So guess what? I am the lucky recipient of yet another security card to get in the door. So now I have two cards on my dog tag. I was beyond thrilled about this. I totally understand it's for the safety of the kids, but seriously, if someone really really wanted to get in they would just bust the door and windows open.
The funny thing I found about this whole thing is that in the note sent home to the parents about the security cards said that "Please be sure to close the door quickly behind you as to not allow anyone else in." HA yeah right. You really think that I'm going to quickly close the door behind a mom that's carrying her infant in the car carrier and has the toddler walking beside her as she's precariously juggling the diaper bag and the kids blankets for nap time with the security card in her teeth?

The things that are pretty much my livelihood, I have to pretty much cut through red tape just to get to. My money and kids. I'm sure it wont be long before the day care decides that all of the parents also need to carry a photo badge along with a pic of each kid that correlates with each parent. They would probably want to have the whole family tree -you know grandma, grandpa and aunts and uncles, god forbid you have step family involved that could be one heavy duty dog tag.
Maybe I'll start a new fashion trend with ID badges hanging from neck like the rapper that wore the giant clock for a necklace.

When I worked for a school district, I was assigned to 3 different schools. Each school had it's own badge. It was a pain in the butt. And since I the school secretaries didn't really know me, they were sticklers for the stupid badge. Luckily the district came out with district-wide badges.

In the meantime, I'll just start calling you Flava-Flav!
