That Girl Is Poison...

I have the absolute luxury of doing extracurricular things on my down time at work. One of those things is wasting the office's my precious time doing random surveys on that "space that is mine". One of the survey questions was What was the first concert you ever went to? I pretty much passed on that one. I felt a little shameful and didn't feel like opening that can of worms. A co-worker of mine (who also has some luxury time) was dying to know who it was. When I told him, I could hear him roaring with laughter from the other side of the room. I knew then that it was perfect blog material and time to open the can of worms.

It had to have been around 91 or 92 maybe even sooner-I never was good with dates. NKOTB was still all the rage for young 12 and 13 year old girls. My very best friend's mother was notorious for winning concert tickets on the radio. L. called me up on the phone and told me her mom had won free tickets to a concert that was that night and did I want to go. Of course I wanted to go, it didn't really matter who. I finally thought it pertinent to know who's concert I was seeing and she told me Bel Biv Devoe.

Now if you weren't a child of the 90's and have no clue Who they are, well...maybe it's best you don't know. They had some popular hits like Poison and some other fine masterpieces that you can look up on the Wiki. Seeing as how I didn't really care who they were or what they sang; I begged and pleaded with my mother to let me go..after all she has this extra ticket and it would just go to waste. My mother being my mother, had absolutely no clue who Bel Biv Devoe was. For all she knew they could have been some kind of Spanish folk singing group. She finally relented in letting me go when I convinced told her that they were just like NKOTB. (Yeah I'm probably going to h*ll for that one.)

The concert was actually quite entertaining from what I remember. I think Boys 2 Men opened for them. Yes we were probably the youngest and most whitest Caucasian girls in the whole place. Did we feel "different" in anyway? Not really at all, we never really thought twice about "it" at the time. Everyone that sat around us was really friendly or maybe they thought it was the most strangest thing they'd ever seen- kind of like a horse of a different color. We had a great time, though details are a little sketchy.

Sorry Mom! They weren't quite NKOTB caliber, however I did read on the Wiki that one of the members is an Insurance Agent in Georgia now. Does that soften the blow?

My gut hurts from laughing so hard. I was even laughing out loud all by myself. What were we thinking? Wait, we were thinking that it would make us "cool" if we went to a concert!
