The Tooth Fairy Should Be Fired!

Wonder Boy is going through that phase in age when he is popping a tooth at least once a month. I'm beyond thrilled that he can pull them out himself. I'll do anything-clean up poo, clean up throw up, dig in the trash to look for lost items, I'll even plunge a toilet or two, but for whatever reason, I can't bring myself to try to pull a tooth. I shiver to the bone just thinking about it.
The problem here is the tooth fairy is a lazy forgetful slacker and should be fired.
This past week Wonder Boy again lost a tooth and was ecstatic to get his visit from the tooth fairy; despite the fact that the last tooth that he pulled, the tooth fairy was a no show. Luckily I think he forgot just as quickly as the tooth fairy did.

I The tooth fairy was determined this time that she was going to be all over this one and would not forget. I She even gave herself a little pep talk and reminder before going to bed to not forget. Just like every other time, oops she did it again and she forgot.

The instant WB woke up he asked if the tooth fairy came. Since I've learned to be really quick on my feet when it comes to covering for the tooth fairy's incompetence, I directed his attention to jump in the shower and do it immediately!
I'm not ashamed to admit that I did a quick switch a roo of money and tooth, right in the blazing obvious presence of his baby brother. Neither were none the wiser. When he got out of the shower, I had to tell him, "Silly kid, you must have not of seen it!"
I was very tempted to out the tooth fairy that morning and to tell the kids the jig is up and the tooth fairy is just a figment of our imagination and no stinkin fairy wants a nasty old tooth and definitely doesn't want one in exchange for cash. The real world just does not work that way. I refrained. I can't steal away the childhood of the 4 year old who has yet to go through the neglectfulness and deceit of the tooth fairy. Maybe the replacement fairy will do a much better job.

Toothy Truth

Wonderboy lost his second tooth last night while he was in bed. Needless to say he is beyond ecstatic that Mrs T. Fairy is making a visit tonight. His comment this afternoon was "I get to say goodbye tooth and helllooo dollar." Yeah he's a riot around here.

Anyways Gameboy who's a year older than his toothless brother, was asking me about Mrs. Fairy after the other two had gone to bed. He came right out and asked, "Tell me the truth mom, cause I need to know, is the tooth fairy real?" Oh boy here we go. He's asked before and as usual I gave my round about answer..that it's all about the magic and mystery. That seems to have held him this long.

Tonight I threw the question back at him on whether he thought she was real. He answered yes, but I could tell that he was kind of saying it to not really lose the thought of the magic. I told him that Mrs. Tooth is a very busy gal and needs assistance and that I help her out in the WorkingMomma household. He took this answer pretty well.

I'm thinking about waking him up a little bit early and letting him join in on the mystery and magic that is the Tooth Fairy. I think he's reached that age of reason. I think he's ready.
Santa may be a whole 'nother story.

*Updated to add- The Daily Mission Impossible of the Tooth Fairy*
I forgot that Wonderboy is a early riser. As I the tooth fairy entered his bedroom with her stealthy stead at her side, there he was wide eye awake at the crack of dawn. This is where the toothfairy has to think of a quick diversion.
"Mom the toothfairy came, but I can't find the dollar."
Clutching the dollar conspicuously in my hand, I send him to the bathroom. "Look for my dollar" he hollars. "No prob, bud" I say as I throw the dollar on the dresser. "There it is, it was under your book."
Another tooth crises averted for another day.

The Truth About The Tooth

Gameboy has been popping out teeth like popcorn the last couple of weeks. I don't ever remember as a kid his age where I'd lose 2-3 teeth in a two week period. Anyways lucky for me he just pulls them out himself or they just "pop" out like he said the one he lost yesterday did. The problem is once they are out, he loses them literally. Then it becomes an issue with Mrs. T. Fairy. For some reason you have to actually have a tooth to receive your monetary reward. The tooth he lost last week, I think he kind of forgot about due to the distraction of getting his allowance money. Therefor Mrs. Fairy didn't make an appearance.

Last night he was really concerned about Mrs. Fairy not coming since he again literally lost the tooth from yesterday. I told him go ahead and write her a note and maybe she'll understand. His eyes lit up and he thought I was a genius, which of course I am, but I don't like to brag. He wrote a meaningful note about losing his tooth and how sorry he was, and that he would try better next time. He placed the note on his bed in hopes of big riches.

I... ahem... Mrs. Fairy..flew..fluttered? She came in for a landing last night and wrote him a nice note back about what a good boy he is and that she is really proud of all the help he does for his mom. I Mrs. Fairy scrounged the house for a decent amount of change and had really no change whatsoever except pennies but that probably wouldn't fly with him. Inflation these days is a killer. Luckily for Mrs. Fairy she found a fifty cent (not the rapper) piece. A rare find in deed!

This morning Gameboy came bouncing into the kitchen. "Look Mom, the tooth fairy left me a note and a special coin I've never seen before." He was so ecstatic about the note and has decided that he needs to write a thank you note back to the tooth fairy. Here's my dilemma, do I does the tooth fairy write him back and we become pen pals and BFF forever or does she just not respond back to the thanks? I'm proud of him for actually thinking of responding to thanks on his own, but I don't want to drag this out. I don't want him to be disappointed that she didn't respond. Is it time to give the whole thing up and tell him it's all a facade? He's 8 and still a bit sensitive about these things.
