Pants..Pyants.. Ham.. Hyam

The day my middle son was born was a day that a smidge of regret came over me. It wasn't because he was the surprise baby that came a few short months after Gameboy. It also wasn't because he was sickly and premature. No the real reason I had regrets was that he was going to be born and bred a Texan.

If you know me than you know I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee. Well I'm not from Muskogee, but you get the point. Okie's and Texans have this love hate relationship. We love our college football rivalry and Okie's hate how crazy Texans drive and well I assume Texans hate how Okies drive. Another thing about Texans is they have this twangy accent and of course there's the stereotypes to but I wont get into that.

My hubs and I really have no prominent accent. When I talk to clients on the phone and they ask me where I'm from, I have to sigh and say under clenched teeth "Texas". Usually when I say that they say "Well ya don't sound like yer from Texass?" Don't get me wrong, I like where I live in Texas. But I also could probably not live anywhere else in Texas.

Now to the point, not that there really was one. My youngest sweet precious baby (who also is a born and bred Texan) has that Texas accent in certain things he says. I demand to know who this person is that taught him to speak this way! I'm looking at you day care. I know ya'll talk all country and stuff there. Instead of saying pants like p ants he says p yants (emphasis on y- like short y). When he wants to read Green Eggs and Ham he says Green Eggs and H-yam.

I have to admit I think it's kinda cute and it makes me laugh when he says it. I keep thinking that he's saying it to be funny to get a rise out of me. So I keep making him say it all the time and he never has slipped and said it right. It probably also doesn't help that I encourage it. "You want to read Green Eggs and Hayam?" "Well, first you better put on your Payants."

Hahaha! I can totally hear the twang! That's hilarious! Don't worry, I still love you even though you're a Texan!

Very cute! My fear is that my kids are going to grow up with an Alabama accent...hopefully will move back to the midwest before it can really get set in!
