End Of An Era

***Updated to add; Turns out as of today CBS is going with Rosie O'Donnell to replace Bob. I'm not sure which is better.***
My fellow co-worker told me that today was the last taping for Bob Barker on Price is Right. I felt a sense that this will be the end of a pop culture era with him leaving. Gilbert Godfrey of all people will be taking his place. No one in my opinion can replace Bob.

I can remember on days that I was home sick from school watching Price is Right and thinking how awesome it would be to be on the show. During the summer time when I was home with my dad this show was always part of our regular t.v. watching ritual. We bonded during this time more than probably any other time. We always had our own competitions on who would be the closest on price whether it be cars or a can of peas. If a contestant was from OK, you'd bet your dollar we were rooting for them.
Since getting married and moving away from home PIR became less of a staple for me, yet on that rare occasion when I am home on weekday morning and am not sharing the t.v. I'll flip it over to Bob just to see what he's up to.

Now that Bob is leaving who will remind us to control the pet population at the end of every show? Hearing Gilbert say it would just be sacrilegious. The show will just not be the same without Bob. So farewell Bob! My generation and many generations before and after me will miss you. Enjoy your retirement and remember that you brought an hours worth of game show entertainment everyday for decades and a bonding with my dad I probably would never have, and for that I thank you. As the saying goes All good things must come to an end.
I found this one of Bob amusing. Just had to share.

I grew up watching him, too. My mom was a SAHM and I don't think she missed one episode. :) I guess controlling the pet population is up to us now. :)

I watched him when I was home sick and stayed with my grandparents. I really got into watching it again when I was staying at home with my first child. I could play any of those games!

There is nothing like Bob Barker. I am a little nauseated at the fact that they'd choose GILBERT GODREY? as his replacement!?

Thanks for this sweet post!
